Fun & Free: Soccer Camp!

Our city has a free soccer skills camp during the summer every Thursday evening that S participates in. We did buy a few pairs of soccer socks and shin guards, and once she went once or twice we got her cleats. Here are some pictures of S during her first practice in mid-June.....and some pictures of my 4 men :D

D's First Haircut!

M pulled out the clippers and buzzed off all of D's crazy hair. He did really well! We might grow it back out though since we are thinking it will look more even and appear thicker with all the fine baby hair gone. Here are some before, during, and after pics :]

Beatiful Sunday in July!

Here are just some random pictures we took outside on Sunday! Such a beautiful sunny day, but VERY hot! Speaking of hot, I think it is time to cut off this afro on D (don't let these pics fool you, I put some curly hair products in it to keep it tame)! ;) Pics to come soon!

M has been gone for the last 16 days and it has been hectic to say the least. Thankfully he is home now! We picked him up around 10am and hung out all day being lazy since he had jet lag from being used to west coast time. Around 4:30pm, my dad and step-mom picked Big C and S up for a sleepover at their house. That gave me and M a little break and we went out with the younger two boys to get my Mexican and Margarita cravings satisfied ;)

My dad texted me these two pics from his phone of S and Big C having a snack at Menchies :) Looks like they are having fun!

A Review: Organic Infant Formulas

I normally have a great milk supply while breastfeeding, but nursing Lil C was a bit different. I had him while my husband was deployed and while I was a fulltime student and I was also doing a year long internship. Despite taking supplements and pumping as much as I could, I found I was going to have to start supplementing with formula when he was about 8 weeks old. Since I usually nurse for two years, I was devastated to introduce formula at such a young age and it soon became my new mission to discover the *BEST* formula I could for him.

A few things that I was specifically looking for:
  • must be palm olein free
  • preferably organic
  • preferably packaged in a BPA-free container OR in as little as possible
There are a few organic formulas out there- Earth's Best, Vermont Organics, Parent's Choice, etc. However I discovered that these were all the same exact formula produced by the company BPM and just packaged with different labels. According to their ingredient listing, they all contain palm olein. I also discovered  on the EWG website that these formulas were packaged in BPA that coated the top, bottom and the sides of the can. I quickly crossed these brands off of my list.

Both the Enfamil and the Gerber Good Start families of formulas did not have an organic brand available and they also contain palm olein. Their powder cans of formula have BPA coating the top and bottom, but not the sides. The worst offenders were the liquid formulas that were packaged in metal cans. Despite feeding my eldest (my only formula-fed baby) Enfamil LIPIL as an infant and doing great on it, I crossed Enfamil (and Gerber) off of my list as well. When you know better, you do better.

Then there was Baby's Only formula by Nature's One. I had to top off a few bottles of breastmilk with D when he was about 9 months until 11 months for his daycare bottles. I read raves about Baby's Only formula and decided to go with it. He did fabulous on it and we had no problems. Nature's One appears to be a very ethical company and their cans are 100% BPA-free. The product is reasonably priced, but may be hard to find. I can only find it locally at EarthFare, and online it can be found at (code EARTHBABY saves $10 off first time orders of $49+ and free shipping!),, and a few others. Some like how the formula does not contain Life's DHA because there is some controversy surrounding how it is processed (I personally do not mind it but I am always open to learn more from legit non-biased articles). Instead you can buy their brand of DHA/ARA and Probiotics and add it to the formula if you want. One con for me is there is no liquid version offered; another is that it clumps a bit when mixing. When I first gave this a try with Lil C it seemed to give him tummy troubles. I do have another can on hand that I might try when he is a bit older to see if he outgrew whatever was giving him issues. Note this is marketed as a "toddler formula" because of the company's pro-breastfeeding position, but it meets ALL of the requirements outlined in the Infant Formula Act and it is completely suitable for infants.

Finally- Similac Organic. This is the formula we finally decided to go with for Lil C. It is offered in 32 ounce ready-to feed quarts or 23.2 ounce plastic SimplePacs. The quarts are 100% BPA free and the SimplePacs are supposedly BPA-free. Some question what may be on the tinfoil lid that you discard once opening the product, but it is a lot better than the whole inside of the container coated with BPA like other brands.
I can only find this product at a Target 20 minutes away but it costs the same as the non-organic Similac. It can also be found online at A bonus with the liquid is that it is good for 72 hours in the refrigerator, whereas other brands are only good for 48 hours. Since I only supplement, this works great for us because it gives us extra time to go thorough a full 32 ounces.

In conclusion- based on my findings, I would go with Organic Similac or Baby's Only. If your baby can not tolerate one of these I would find another formula within the Similac or Baby's Only families of formulas before branching out to other brands. This way you can avoid formulas with an excess of BPA and those that contain palm olein. As always, please do your own research and consult your ped!

*For personal opinions, I opted to not pursue donor milk or attempt making my own formulas although I did a bit of research on all alternative options. Please be respectful of my decisions- and remember- breast is best!)

Carseats: Extended Rear Facing V. Forward Facing

I know this will make some militant carseat fanatics clutch their hearts and gasp but I decided last night to turn my 26 month old around in his carseat for a multitude of reasons. :) Here is a picture of him today in his Britax Roundabout50 and next to him is Lil C in his Graco Snugride.

Tonight the Tooth Fairy is Going to Visit!

Today was just a regular day. My sister-in-law brought her two girls over and my mom took them + Big C and S to the pool for a few hours and I stayed home with Lil C and D. After they came home and showered and my nieces got picked back up, we went to Target to get some more stuff for S's room. We got a picture and some more wall stickies. They didn't have the curtains we wanted so I am going to see if I can get them online. I can't wait until it is finished and I will def be posting pics!

Oh and the most important thing of the day: S lost her 4th tooth today! Now both top front teeth are missing. She says she looks like a Jack O Lantern now :)

Here are some random pics we took today....D pulled my camera out of my purse so why not snap a few-tacky-pics-in-front-of-Target? ;)

Here is S showing off her new smile, D in my cart and C in the cart my mom was pushing.

We were out running errands this afternoon getting stuff to paint S.'s room and I snapped this photo with my phone. I like to dress my boys  alike while I can still get away with it- so corny but so cute!
D is 26 months old now and Lil' C is 6.5 months old now.
